What is Catford Food Market?

It is a monthly food market showcasing shopping and eating in Catford Town Centre.
It is separate to Lewisham Farmers Market and the daily Catford Market.

Who is it for?

Anyone who loves Catford and enjoys shopping and eating. We welcome anyone who wants to pop by, stay the day or just see what’s what. 

We offer a mix of street food stalls, specialist food retail, beers, gin and hot and cold drinks, handmade cosmetics, arts, crafts and books.

Wasn’t there a monthly market on the Catford Broadway before?

Yes, there was.  Catford Town Centre was awarded funding from the Mayor of London’s Outer London Fund Round 1 in 2012 to trial a street market as well as improve, lighting, paving, shop fronts and signage. Some of the traders from this market that have returned include Pastificio Mansi and Capo Caccia Fine Food.

When is it?

Catford Food Market is monthly on the last Sunday of the month starting from March 25th 2018.

Where is it?

Right in the heart of Catford Town Centre on Catford Broadway. Look for stalls, awnings and stylish vintage vans.

What are the opening hours?

Catford Food Market is open for business 10am to 4pm.

How do I get there?

We advise coming to Catford Food Market by public transport. Buses including numbers 47, 54, 75, 124, 136, 160, 171, 181, 185, 199, 202, 208, 284, 320 and 336 stop nearby.

We are a short walk or taxi journey from both Catford and Catford Bridge stations or the surrounding areas. We are also bike accessible with secure bike parking at the bike racks on Catford Broadway.

If you are driving, there is limited parking at Canadian Avenue and Thomas Lane car parks. Both car parks have three disabled bays available. Charges may apply on Sundays for non disabled parking so please check.

Is Catford Food Market accessible?

Catford Broadway is a wide flat street with minimal kerbs and as such is accessible for wheelchairs, buggies and shopping trolleys. Catford Food Market will have its own custom seating areas for you to stop and take the weight off while you eat. 

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are welcome at the Catford Food Market as long as they are on leads at all times. Please bag any mess they make and either use the bins provided on take it home.

What about the environmental policy at Catford Food Market?

We don’t just care about the immediate Catford environment for shopping and eating but the wider footprint of our market. We are working to minimise waste and encourage our traders to offer non plastic or recyclable food packaging and utensils. 

We also have recycling bins at the Catford Food Market which we encourage you to use.

Can I use my debit card at Catford Food Market?

While some individual traders may have card machines, Catford Food Market is cash based. There are ATMs at each end of Catford Broadway rather handily.

Yes, Catford Food Market operates a smoke free policy in all areas including the seating areas. 

I LOVE STREET FOOD BUT CAN I SIT DOWN AND EAT? 

Ha, we know how tricky it can be to eat that wrap or delicious curry or slice of cake while standing up with one hand full and those shopping bags in the other so we have seating for you to use and minimise the chance of spilling your lunch down your front.

Catford Broadway has built in seating and we also have custom seating provided for you to enjoy the market especially if you have little legs.

What about my dietary needs at Catford Food Market?

We have a fantastic selection of food for all kinds of dietary needs at Catford Food Market. Many of our traders sell vegan food from cakes to hot dishes. Please be aware that the Catford Food Market is not a wholly vegan market and some traders sell vegan and vegetarian items alongside meat based products.

There is also a selection of gluten free foods along with dairy and wheat free foods.
Please check with the traders before buying for allergy advice.

Catford Food Market is NOT nut free. 

Can I buy and drink alcohol at Catford Food Market?

Catford Food Market offers a range of craft beers and our own Catford Tom Cat Six gin for sale. Due to local licensing laws you cannot drink them at the market so all bottles must remain sealed and taken home for later.

Even if we can’t tempt you with our range of food and treats when you see them, we have lots of other things for you to enjoy. Each month brings and all kinds and we have completely free events too such as music, craft for kids, community cooking, meeting the makers and a range of seasonal interests for everyone.

Who runs Catford Food Market?

Catford Food Market is run and created by Team Catford. They are a specialists in community engagement, urban regeneration, film making, social media, town centre manangement and place-making. They all live in the borough, mostly Catford itself, and are leading major community engagement on behalf of Lewisham Council.

You may know their work already from amongst other things the 2017 Catford Gin Festival and revived Catford Beer Fest or bringing cinema to the areas with Catford Film. 

You can visit their website or pop along to their stall at the Catford Food Market to chat Catford or give your opinions on the regeneration of the area. They can’t help with local issues such as schools or bins.
