Don’t miss the freshly made churros (doughnut-style) filled with chocolate or salted caramel sauce.
The small Mediterranean island of Sardinia is famed the world over for its wide variety of cheese, pasta and seafood and Capo Caccia Fine Food are the only market traders selling Sardinian food in London. Delight in their organic unpasteurised pecorino cheese with saffron, hand rolled fregola which crosses pasta with couscous for soups and salads, and their air dried gluten and lactose free salamis.
Japanese ‘kara-agé’ chicken culture, celebrated by fusé. Tender chicken thigh pieces are marinated in sweet garlicky ‘kara-age’ sauce, coated and fried in the lightest crispest wheat and gluten free batter and served with either seasonal rice such as ginger or radish or hand cut sweet potato fries. And we haven’t left the vegans and vegetarians out either with ‘kara-agé’ deep fried tofu hitting the spot.

From back bacon to twice smoked cheddar and sashimi grade smoked salmon, this is food to add a little affordable luxury to anything from a picnic to a quick fridge forage dinner. Enjoy eating ‘dhaba’ = kerbside Indian style. Fresh pillowy naan is wrapped round marinated grilled chicken, lamb or spiced chickpeas and served topped homemade salad and condiments to make a wrap you’ll remember. Rinku and her team make all their marinades, salads and sauces from scratch using recipes learned in India and adapted to London tastebuds. Try a portion of gourmet chunky masala fries on the side too.
California style tacos and burritos made with love. Don’t miss the SoCal classic of fish tacos filled with fresh cod, avocado and coriander or the beer battered shrimp with chipotle and lime. Quality ingredients such as free range eggs make their famous breakfast burritos, succulent pulled pork, homemade sauces, salsas and frijoles. Share some nachos while you wait to get your chops round the quesadillas filled with chicken and chorizo and dipped in homemade crema.
London trailblazers with the first fully vegan ice cream stall, Black Mylk are South East Londoners back on home turf. Created from creamy cashew nuts and rich coconut milk churned into a delicious ice cream. This is seriously stylish ice cream in show stopping flavours including Honeycomb and Pine Nut, Black Sesame, Miso Caramel and Dark Chocolate, Sea Salt and seasonal fruit based scoops.
Join the street picnic with the Comfort and Joy’s amazing hot and cold dishes. Famed for their fantastic vegetarian Scotch eggs and falafels they also have range of meat free curries, polenta pots and three bean chilli. For the carnivores they serve up home-made traditional meat pies and sausage rolls, Thai chicken curry and classic lasagne. Gluten and wheat free eaters have a great range of clearly labelled dishes too.
Vegan doner kebabs and magical meze boxes. Discover doners made from handcrafted sourdough pitta packed with so much fresh salad and plant based doner ‘meat’ and if you are a chilli sauce fiend, then you’re in luck because theirs is both homemade and zing-ing! The meze boxes are a mix of divine turmeric hummus, brightly coloured beetroot and mint couscous, sourdough pitta bread, doner ‘meat’ and stuffed vine leaves.
This scrumptious vegan cake is perfect for anyone who is vegan, dairy free or just really likes cake. Tastes so good you simply won’t believe it's vegan and cruelty free. If you’re missing Nutella since going vegan, don’t miss the chocolate hazelnut sponge with a rich chocolate ‘butter’ cream and roasted hazelnuts. Feeling sweet? try the caramel Biscoff spread cupcakes, MissFlits’ range of brownies, or the famed peanut butter blondies.

Take a beer tour of London without leaving Catford; from Brick Brewery’s Peckham Pils to beer all the way from Tottenham. Discover the extensive range of craft beers, wines and ciders from local, national and international producers. Three Hounds Beer Co has beer a tangy rhubarb sour that’s more like a cocktail, to a smooth milk stout to sip. What’s more, they can almost claim to have a beer for each letter of the alphabet with Wylam Brewery and Yeastie Boys on their shelves.
South London cake royalty - Brest and Bailey have been creating cakes and bakes in Crystal Palace since 2012, and we’ve been fans since the start. Rediscover classics with their double carrot cake (one of your five-a-day right?), chocolate Guinness cake, gooey salted chocolate brownies and those peanut butter bars drizzled with salted caramel. Or try something new each visit with their seasonal specials.
Practically the second religion of Spain, croquetas are a tapas favourite throughout the country. Catford duo CroquetteMan are showcasing their interpretation of the Spanish delicacy of rich creamy béchamel sauce fused with jamon, mushroom or leek and truffle wrapped in breadcrumbs and deep fried. It's a gooey savoury snack everyone will love.
Mixing their Bajan and Jamaican roots with their London heritage Daniel and Heleena create mouthwatering jerk chicken and ital vegan boxes along with their own hot sauces and homemade jerk marinades to try at home. They’ll be firing up the grill for the best jerk in town, not only the most succulent marinated chicken but an epic variety of the very best authentic vegan jerk.
Queue early for their seitan steak sandwiches and pulled jackfruit burgers. The Nooch use their twenty years experience of vegan cooking to create food you’ll come back for, vegans will love the attention to detail in these dishes. Completely plant based, totally delicious, it’s a real lunchtime treat. Or why not explore veganism with the tofu scramble wrap with spinach and black beans, for a perfect brunch.
Drink coffee, feel good with a visit to the gorgeous Perlant & Press vintage van. Made with freshly ground Redemption Roasters’ beans, roasted in Aylesbury Prison in an initiative to prevent youth re-offending. Add Northiam Dairy milk from East Sussex (the discerning barista’s fav’) or go dairy free with oat and soya mylks. Tea anyone? Try Birchall teas for the grown ups and Small & Wild teas for the small people.
There will no problem getting your kids to eat their crusts with these glorious slow risen sourdough pizzas. Made from Van Dough’s own lovingly cultivated starter, that many people find easier to digest than yeasted doughs from big chains. The pizzas are shaped in front of your eyes, topped with their homemade tomato sauce and quality meats, cheeses and seasonal toppings before being cooked in their amazing wood fired oven all, in the back of their vintage Citroen Hy van.

Catford gets crafty with local gal Hazel Nicholls’ take on kids’ clothes, ceramics and greetings cards. She creates everything right here in Catford and mixes her adopted South East London home with her Northern Irish roots to make eye catching and humorous items that are a total talking point. From her mugs celebrating Catford and Ladywell to super soft cotton slogan baby grows, everything she sells is funny and quirky and absolutely packed with charm.
London’s love of gin goes back a long way and Catford is right at the cutting edge of the gin revival, with their very own Old Tom gin. Slightly sweeter than London Dry Gins, Old Tom gin carefully balances six botanicals including peppery juniper and a subtle sting of Scotch Bonnet peppers for both sipping and serving over ice and a premium tonic water. Distilled in conjunction with Foxdenton Estate and devised here in SE6.
With homemade granola as good as this you’ll want to eat it all day long. Lower sugar and completely gluten, free Penola Granola is made with Fairtrade ingredients and is also vegan, making it available to everyone. Blended in Catford using one third gluten free oats, one third nuts, seeds and fruit and one third coconut, it’s a higher protein and designed to fill you up. Penola Granola is making granola delicious again.
An easy drinking hop driven pale ale, created in conjunction with Brockley Brewery. New World hops backed up with biscuity malts give notes of citrus and pine and aromas of wild strawberry with an easy balanced finish and 4.3% ABV Catford Pride goes well with good food and good company. Even if you haven’t tried the beer before now, you’ll recognise the logo with the Catford cat pride of place.
